Fun Outdoor Activities for Kids
| April 22, 2013 | Parenting |
Now that the weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer, it’s the perfect time to start with some great outdoor activities that you can do with your kids during the evenings or on the weekends. Here are some ideas for fun outdoor activities your kids will love. 1. Build a fort. All kids (and even some adults) love forts andthey’re so easy to make it’s impossible not to play with one. It’s as easy as grabbing supplies from Tarp Surplus and setting up a tent or fort in your backyard. Furnish it with a few pieces of furniture or toys and you and your kids can play for hours. 2. If you’re already building a fort, why not go camping in your own backyard? You and your kids get to enjoy the outdoors and you get the comforts of not having to leave for anywhere and food and basic amenities are right there in the house. If you have a fire pit, you could even roast marshmallows and pretend that you’re out in the woods by telling stories around the fire. 3. Grab some sidewalk chalk and have fun. Most kids love to draw and sidewalk… more

Think Spring! Scooters Make the Perfect Boys Toys {and girls, too}
| April 10, 2013 | ACE, Things I love |
We have been talking lately about getting ready for Spring! Well it’s finally here:) The temperatures are soaring here in the South and even the Lehigh Valley has had some warm days! Growing up in the northeast, the spring was when you could finally get outside and play!!! All day! We didn’t grow up with cable or video games, and we didn’t have air conditioning when I was little, so you played outside a lot! If you have a little one who is big enough, a scooter is a great toy! They can control where they go and allows them to be mobile, yet it’s easier to navigate than a bike. If you need to get some ideas check out skatehut.co.uk for some great scooters. They have a nice selection that is perfect for boys (and girls of all ages!) You can even take part in it too as they have scooters for adults and motorized scooters. Please just remember to wear your helmets and teach the little ones proper scooter safety before going out on your family adventure! So who here has a scooter for you or your kiddos? Do you love it? more

Get Ready for Spring: Planning the Perfect Spring or Summer Party
| March 27, 2013 | ACE, Family |
It’s here! Spring! We can finally get out and about and are feeling social again. For those of you stuck in the snow and cold weather, spring is the time to celebrate! Are you throwing a spring party or even a birthday party for your kiddos this summer? Now’s the time to think about what you are going to do for that special party. Here are some tips on planning the perfect party this spring: 1. Pick a Theme. It can be Thomas the Train for the kids or Spring Showers. Whatever you choose, it’s best to choose a theme that you can incorporate into your party. Then you can plan your menu, color scheme, and accessories. To get some great ideas, you can check out www.Parteaz.co.uk . 2. Once you have chosen your theme, plan your menu. Is this a brunch? A garden party? A birthday dinner? Some parties will require a full meal, but others just appetizers. If you are having a party at 12 noon, it would be expected that you would serve a full lunch. If your party is at 2 p.m., you can get away with light fare or hors d’overs 3. Chose your… more
Mothers Day Gift Guide: Fashionable Clothes for New Moms who Breastfeed
| March 27, 2013 | ACE, Mothers Day Gift Guide |
Moms who are breastfeeding know how hard it is to find fashionable clothes to wear while the little ones are still feeding. It was easier for me to wear a big floppy T-shirt, however, going out in public that way was a little embarrassing. My nursing nightgowns had childlike characters and they were far from making me feel good about my post baby body. I wish I would have heard of Milkbug when little man was little. Milkbug has turned the tables on ugly breast feeding attire and has made some fashionable dresses, tops, nightwear and covers. Now when you go out, you can go out in style and not in your baggy T-shirts and nursing bras! Look at this Little Black Dress…. this looks like something that I would have in my closet now!!! Love! So head over and check out their site for some great fashion to surprise your favorite breast feeding new momma with on Mother’s Day:) more
Get Ready for Spring – Helping Your Child Learn To Ride a Bike
| March 26, 2013 | ACE, Family |
Spring is here! That means we can all get out of hibernation and get outside! If you have little ones, you may be helping them to ride a bicycle. There are some important things to remember when helping your little one ride a bike for the first time. Here are some tips to make your little peddlers have a safe and fun time: 1. Pick the right bike for their size and skill level. You can see some good examples at www.action-kids.com/puky-balance-bikes/ . There are bikes that are made for many levels of riders from toddler to kids. Don’t try to force your child to learn on a big bike or one handed down from your older children. Invest in a bike that is made for their age and skill level. 2. Pick a small level spot, safely away from traffic and obstacles. Make sure that its small enough to contain them where you could catch them if they become out of control, however, large enough to be able to ride. Make sure that there are no hills as it can cause them to gain speed and possibly lose control. 3. Wear a helmet! Even if it’s a… more
Mothers Day Gift Guide – Accessories New Moms Will Love!
| March 25, 2013 | ACE, Mothers Day Gift Guide 2013 |
When I had my son, I had to stop wearing accessories. As a baby, he would constantly pull and tug at my necklaces and broke many a chain. He would also put them in his mouth (along with my bracelets, too). I finally gave up wearing them for his safety (and my jewelry’s safety). I wish I would have known about Amber Pumpkin Jewelry. It’s teething friendly jewelry! You may have seen it on celebrities like Tori Spelling and Ali Landry and not even realized it! This would make a great gift for new moms on Mother’s Day. Another great necklace for new moms is a breast feeding necklace. I never heard of these before, but they would be great for any mom who struggles with fussy babies when they are breast feeding or if they pass off the feeding duties to others. This beaded necklace will distract them while feeding. It also provides a consistency while feeding. It also works with bottle fed babies. You can give it to others to wear who may be feeding your baby so the baby has something familiar. Amber Pumpkin also has a great line of children’s jewelry, breastfeeding necklaces (brilliant idea!), and… more
Getting Ready for Spring: Hitting the Road
| March 23, 2013 | ACE, Road Trips |
With the summer road trip season starting, many of us will take off and drive to points all over Pennsylvania and beyond. From the northwest tip of the state surrounding Erie to the southeastern part and the suburbs of Philadelphia, there is no getting around one fact. Pennsylvania is one long state to traverse. The Pennsylvania Turnpike runs 360 miles across the state, from northwest of Pittsburgh to outside of Philadelphia, and it winds through flatland, mountains, hilly regions and suburban sprawl before exiting into the next state. With so many different terrains to pick from it is no wonder why Pennsylvania drivers face changing weather and driving conditions on a daily basis. This is a reason why drivers should maintain their Pennsylvania car insurance click here, no matter whether they are a veteran of the Keystone State or a newcomer to the ways of Pennsylvania driving. There are no new insurance regulations to worry about at this point. However, for drivers unlucky enough to get into a car accident or wreck, the state of Pennsylvania is making drivers aware of a new phone app called WreckCheck, for IPhone and Android systems. WreckCheck takes you through the steps needed to… more
Check Out This Parenting Site & a {THANK YOU} to our April Sponsor
| March 21, 2013 | ACE, Parenting |
I love reading parenting blogs. I know I write one, however, there are a lot of things I have questions about. Since friends and family are far away, there are sometimes questions that I have or things I was wondering about that I really don’t have anyone to ask about. Plus a lot of our friends have older kids, so they may not remember. I was introduced to www.mommyedition.com and found some really great and helpful information. They have also became our Sponsor this month so please show some love. There are a lot of great articles from different contributors. I have read all about making reading fun for kids (which is my concern now as little man is not really into books). They have a lot of other articles from Taming the Terrible Two’s to How to Raise a Green kid. Thanks again Mommy Edition for supporting this blog! If you are interested in sponsoring the blog, please email me at jen (at) lehighvalleymomma (dot) com . I rely on support to keep this blog going as it is time consuming and there are monthly expenses (hosting, etc.) that I incur. more
